Summer Courses 2017

I am running a number of exciting new courses this summer to suit all levels.

Scroll down to see what’s on and when.

Intensive four-day throwing course: Monday 24th July to Thursday 27th July 10am to 4pm

Whether you are a complete beginner or want to improve your technique, these small, mixed-ability groups allow you to learn in a focused, supportive and creative environment. The course will vary in content. The emphasis will be on throwing the forms of cylinders, plates and bowls; looking at ways to finish rims, turn pots and make lids and handles. There will be regular one-to-one support and plenty of demonstrations.

Over the course you’ll select your best pieces for firing to be glazed at a later date for collection. There is a charge of £2.50 per kg clay for this.

The course is limited to five participants so each person has their own wheel.

Cost £280

Comprehensive Three day Raku Course  29th, 30th July and 5th August 10am to 4pm

On this three day course you will learn a range of surface effects that can be obtained using a raku kiln. There will be two days of building using a choice of suitable clay from smooth paper porcelain to very coarse crank clay. Some pieces will be burnished and some left to experiment with crackled and lustre glazes. Demonstrations will happen throughout, and this will help to inform you when you come to fire your own pieces. There is a week between classes to allow time for the work to be fired for the grand finale the following weekend. Cost of materials is included.

Bring an apron and a packed lunch.

Limited to eight participants

Cost £215

Due to demand I have cancelled the surface decoration course originally scheduled on these dates with another three day throwing course

Beginners weekend 26th and 27th August 10am to 4pm

This course is ideal for complete beginners or for those who have done a little bit in the past, and wish to reconnect with clay and making pots. We will cover all hand-building techniques, as you will have the chance to try the potters wheel. You will be shown how to decorate using coloured slip and underglaze to create pattern and texture on your pieces. Everything you make will be allowed to dry, then dipped in glaze for collection at a later date.

Due to the popularity of the throwing classes I have decided to put on an extra two-day course dedicated to the wheel. There will be one to one teaching and plenty of demonstrations. You will have the opportunity to turn your pieces, add handles to any cups and jugs or teapots etc.  You’ll be able to choose which pots to keep, and have fired, cost £2.50 per kilo
