About Ricky Grimes

Ricky Grimes initially trained as a baker of specialist breads in Covent Garden, London before becoming interested in ceramics in 1990. After a two year course he began as a tutor technician at Ormond Road Workshops in Islington London. It was there he developed a wide range in ceramic skills working on his own thrown and sculptural pieces as well as developing and running courses for adults and for children with learning difficulties.

His first major school project came in 2000 when he was asked if he could run a course to celebrate the millennium with children from Torriano Junior school in Camden, North London. This was a tile and mosaic project (see section on mosaics for details) which involved the whole school. More mosaic and tile panels were commissioned after that before he began to develop more projects  and school courses such as ceramic and clay masks, planters, totem poles, relief panels and welcome signs all working with groups of children and on a large scale.

Ricky is fully CRB certified.

He also makes a wide range of thrown domestic ware in porcelain, earthenware and stoneware clays.

He has also worked on private commissions for hand crafted cut tile floors, signage for Rasa restaurants in London and individual pieces for Ashtree House Hotel, Paisley.

He runs several classes for adults from his North London workshop as well as making his own pieces for sale.
